- Abstract
- As the climate changes the risks to agriculture increases which is a threat to food security around the world. One such risk is an increase in rainfall which can lead to decreased crop yields. Sweden today is dependent on other countries for their food supply, however the countries it depends on will suffer more from climate related risks to their agriculture meaning that Sweden's own food production needs to increase. Skåne has one of the most productive lands in Sweden, but has an increased risk of heavier rainfall in the future. Skåne has one of the most productive lands in Sweden, but has an increased risk of heavier rainfall in the future. This study investigates what planning strategies there are in Eslöv, a municipality in Skåne, against flooding on agricultural land. The study uses document analysis on planning documents and applies the conceptual framework of disaster risk management and the concepts of food security and food sovereignty to investigate the research question: How can Swedish food security be affected by flooding on agricultural land? The results found that Eslöv municipality does not have any stated planning strategies against flooding on agricultural land, which could have a negative impact on Swedish food security. On the other hand the agricultural land is seen as worth protecting and some strategies could prevent farmlands from flooding, which is beneficial for food security. (Less)
