Decoding Decision-Making: The Influence of Attachment Styles and Emotional Intelligence
(2024) PSYP02 20241Department of Psychology
- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to investigate how adult attachment styles and emotional intelligence impact decision-making styles. An online survey was distributed to individuals aged 18 years or older (N =110). The survey included three instruments; the Adult Attachment Scale (AAQ), Wong & Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS), and the General Decision-Making Style (GDMS) questionnaire, along with demographic questions. A Pearson correlation analysis and linear regression models were used to analyze the data. The results showed that adult attachment styles and emotional intelligence were significant predictors of decision-making styles. An avoidant attachment style negatively predicted an intuitive decision-making style, while emotional... (More)

The results showed that adult attachment styles and emotional intelligence were significant predictors of decision-making styles. An avoidant attachment style negatively predicted an intuitive decision-making style, while emotional intelligence positively predicted an intuitive decision-making style. An anxious attachment positively predicted an avoidant decision-making style, while emotional intelligence was a negative predictor of an avoidant decision-making style. A dependent decision-making style was positively predicted by an anxious attachment and the regulation of emotion (ROE) facet of emotional intelligence. Suggestions for future research, practical implications, and limitations to this study are discussed. (Less)
