Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine how a strong culture shapes the sources of motivation for employees in an organization. Furthermore, we aim to present how this culture, and thereby the employee motivators, impact how leadership is exercised in the organization. We will furthermore explore the roles of trust and micromanagement as important elements in this relationship. The goal is to develop new leadership metaphors applicable to similar organizations. Our research is guided by two key research questions. To achieve the purpose of the study and address the research questions posed, a qualitative research method with an abductive approach, rooted in interpretivism is used. Semi-structured interviews with 15 employees were conducted... (More)

Our research is guided by two key research questions. To achieve the purpose of the study and address the research questions posed, a qualitative research method with an abductive approach, rooted in interpretivism is used. Semi-structured interviews with 15 employees were conducted at the case company. he theoretical framework primarily encompasses literature about leadership, culture, leadership metaphors, motivation, micromanagement, and trust. Additionally, we incorporate theories that can highlight the interplay between culture, motivation, and leadership.
This paper contributes to existing theory by providing two new leadership metaphors that aim to explain how leadership can present itself in an organization characterized by a strong organizational culture. In this pursuit, the impact of a strong culture on employee motivation is argued to be an important factor in mediating the relationship between culture and leadership. (Less)
