Abstract (Swedish)
Resultaten visade... (More)

(Less)
Abstract
This bachelor’s thesis is a qualitative inquiry into what effect Motivational interviewing (MI) has on the work experience of pedagogues working with people with mental impairment. MI is a counselling approach which is used in various care & support professions, but few studies have been conducted on the interviewer’s experience of using MI, especially people working in LSS (the Swedish act concerning support and service for people with certain impairment). This thesis is directed towards questions such as what importance MI has for their work and if they experience any difference in their work compared to before they learned MI. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with three staff members working within LSS-care, the interviews were... (More)

This thesis is directed towards questions such as what importance MI has for their work and if they experience any difference in their work compared to before they learned MI. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with three staff members working within LSS-care, the interviews were transcribed and analysed in accordance with Thematic Analysis (TA). The results showed signs that MI can contribute in a mostly positive way to the staff members work, partly through compassionate values, but also through concrete consultative tools that are relevant to the LSS-mission. MI seems to allow staff to “take a step back”, work with more effective listening skills, and give the staff a common ground on which they can organise their work in a more comprehensive way. Moreover, discussion follows on ambiguities within the LSS-mission, limitations in the bachelor’s thesis, and how this thesis expresses a wish for the subject to be explored further. (Less)
