- This thesis aims to provide a deeper understanding of how Business Angels (BA) investment process and criteria are impacted by entrepreneurial competencies (EC) when assessing the founding team during the screening phase. This study reinforces the definition of entrepreneurial competencies by bringing a new perspective on how these competencies can be classified and enhances the implication of the dynamism of the initial definition. Additionally, this study delved into the Business Angel's investment process and their behaviour regarding the choice of the founding team by using a qualitative approach to contribute to unveiling the unclarity around the criteria they were choosing and their relationship to trust regarding the entrepreneurs. The result presented in this paper is a new classification of entrepreneurial competencies named under Synergetic Entrepreneurial Competencies (SEC), highlighting 1) the importance of the dimension of Execution, Teamwork, Trustworthiness and Risk-Taking in Business Angels criteria and investment decision; 2) the confirmation of the dynamism and interconnected nature of the entrepreneurial competencies. Through this result, this study contributed to a deeper understanding of business angels' behaviour when considering an investment, providing a new perspective on the role of entrepreneurial competencies in their decision and furnishing a detailed framework of essential competencies of the founding team.
