- Given that creative outcomes constitute a critical competitive factor in the creative sector, they also represent an essential resource in a rapidly evolving and innovation-driven market. This motivates an in-depth analysis of the forces that either enable or inhibit creativity. This study examines the influence of management and leadership on creatives in creative industries and identifies factors that can either enable or inhibit the creative process. The research incorporates perspectives from both managers and creatives. From the gathered data from ten interviews, we analyse how managerial practices are perceived and performed. The analysis highlights the importance of autonomy, freedom, and trust during the creative process, concluding that a redefined approach with less managerial control is essential. Ultimately, leaders in creative industries have a significant influence on the environment in which creatives work, and supporting a nurturing and safe space for exploration is beneficial. We conclude that managerial practices are necessary for providing structure. However, when management becomes excessively rigid and structures are imposed, there is a risk of creating obstacles that hinder creativity from emerging. Therefore, certain management techniques must be reconsidered and adapted for the creative context. Consequently, leadership has been demonstrated as a significant driving force behind creativity, leading to the conclusion that leadership plays a crucial role in organising creativity due to its direct and potential enhancing influence on creatives.
