- Abstract
- In increasingly individualised and secularised societies, questions of meaning, social connectedness, and psychological well-being have gained attention in both research and public discourse. Self-transcendence has been proposed as a potential psychological resource in this context but has rarely been examined in relation to collective belonging and well-being within a Swedish population. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationships between self-transcendence, collective belonging, and well-being, with self-transcendence as the central variable. The study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design based on self-report data from 114 Swedish-speaking participants aged 16–80 years. Self-transcendence, collective... (More)

The study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design based on self-report data from 114 Swedish-speaking participants aged 16–80 years. Self-transcendence, collective belonging, psychological well-being, and life satisfaction were measured using established instruments. The relationships between variables were analysed using Pearson correlations and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that all variables were positively and statistically significantly related (p < .001). Self-transcendence demonstrated a strong association with psychological well-being and moderate associations with life satisfaction and collective belonging. In the regression analysis, psychological well-being was the only variable that contributed unique explanatory variance to self-transcendence. Overall, the findings indicate that self-transcendence is closely related to both eudaimonic well-being and perceived social belonging and can be understood as a relational and meaning-oriented psychological resource in an individualised society. - Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
