- Abstract
- The number of cyber attacks against society’s critical infrastructure is increasing,
affecting fundamental societal functions such as health care, electricity and
communication. In this thesis, a bibliometric analysis consisting of a bibliographic
coupling and a co-word analysis is performed in order to investigate the research
field of cyber security in relation to critical infrastructure. The aim of the thesis is
to contribute with more knowledge about the social and cognitive structures of the
field, by applying Becher’s and Trowler’s theoretical framework about academic
tribes and territories. Based on 2504 publications published between 2016–2025,
the analysis shows an expanding and increasingly complex field. It is possible... (More) - The number of cyber attacks against society’s critical infrastructure is increasing,

to contribute with more knowledge about the social and cognitive structures of the
field, by applying Becher’s and Trowler’s theoretical framework about academic
tribes and territories. Based on 2504 publications published between 2016–2025,
the analysis shows an expanding and increasingly complex field. It is possible to
see convergent tendencies in this development. The growing number of authors
combined with the difficulty to discern a stable core of authors points to an urban
field. Advanced and more technical systems is an increasingly popular research
subject and the use of keywords with relevance to environments outside the
academic world suggests a field with hard and urban characteristics. Therefore,
based on the theoretical framework, the research field of cyber security in relation to critical infrastructure is a hard, urban and convergent field with a focus on
applied research. (Less)
