Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
This study examines how nation branding is constructed through discourses in political communication with a particular focus on how national identity and power relations are created and reproduced in a personalized political context. The aim is to analyze how discursive strategies are used to shape and communicate notions of the nation and how national brand representations are used to position nations in relation to other actors, with the United States serving as an empirical example. The study is based on critical discourse analysis according to Fairclough's three-dimensional model and analyzes how linguistic expressions, discursive practices, and sociocultural contexts interact in the construction of meaning. The empirical material consists of a selection of political speeches by Donald Trump, where the analysis identifies five recurring discourses in the material: the superior nation, the good nation, the protective nation, the liberating nation and the leading nation. The result shows how political personalization and nation branding interact and are constructed through linguistic and discursive strategies that shape notions of national identity and power. (Less)
