- My aim is to show how unemployed youth, in Sweden and Denmark, during the years 1992-1996, were coping with their situation as unemployed, by focusing on their motivation for work, their conception of work, and their alternative action. Swedish youth have for a number of decades lived with a labour market policy which has had full employment as a goal and included active measures. Danish youth have grown up with high unemployment and some parents even have been or are out of work. The social types are for example; ”the restless”, ”the adventures”, ”the lacerated” , ”the dreamers” and ” the life enjoyers”. By dividing unemployed youth in social types the polarization about the conception of work has become more clear, for example, between ”the restless” and ”the life enjoyers”. Why the youth chose different alternatives of action and the reason why some can be seen as subjectivized and others not, has to do with four factors; labour market policy, influence of parents, the development of identity, and societal changes, which leads to new conditions. Hon urskiljer 15 sociala typer av arbetslösa ungdomar : de rastlösa, de maktlösa, de flyttbenägna, de kontaktlösa, de ambivalenta, de värnpliktsfixerade, de traditionella , de sargade, de frustrerade, vardagsfilosoferna, de oberörda, äventyrarna, drömmarna, melankolikerna och livsnjutarna. Alla har de sin speciella karakteristika och uppsättning av handlingsalternativ. Vissa av grupperna visar på att en polarisering av inställningen till arbetet hade skapats i arbetslöshetens karantän ; några beter sig som ”de duktiga arbetslösa” som står till arbetsmarknadens förfogande och har identiteten ”lönearbetare”, medan andra beter sig som ”de flexibla, subjektiverade arbetslösa” och konstruerar sina egna livsspår. Samtidigt sätter Stojanovic dessa grupper i relation till arbetsmarknadens krav; d.v.s om de ungas förhållningssätt kan leda till ett inträde på arbetsmarknaden eller inte och utvecklar härigenom fyra ytterligare fyra grupper; de anpassade, de kvalificerade, de diskvalificerade och de icke-anpassade. Med hjälp av modernitets- och senmodernitetsteorier diskuterar samhällsutvecklingen och vad det innebär att vara ung och arbetslös idag. Författaren betonar särskilt den sociala och etniska bakgrundens roll för vem som blir arbetslös och därmed marginaliseras. (Less)
