Narrow journal bearings

Ståhl, Jonas LU (2002) In Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology 216(J5). p.343-346
Abstract
In this report, numerical analyses of very narrow journal bearings are presented. The pressure distribution was determined for a number of different width-diameter ratios and eccentricities. For each combination, a number of relevant dimensionless design quantities were computed. The next step was to obtain curve-fitted functions for the variation in each design quantity. The functions are intended to be used in short computer codes and as an engineering aid in the design process. Although the complexity of the functions was low, the resemblance with the numerical results was shown to be excellent.
