The study included four social workers who all worked within the department of financial assistance. The material for the study was collected with four different methods: interviews, observations, go-along-method, and accounts-questions. The collected material was analyzed according to previous research and parts of two theories: Pierre Bourdieu´s theory of symbolic capital with focus on field and doxa, Claude Shannon and Warren Weavers´ communications model which is a part of their information theory. It was revealed in the study that all of the social workers believe that the protective interior is of importance as a certain risk of threats and violence exists. The study was focused on two protective interiors that were considered higher prioritized by the four social workers: alarm in case of assault and the receptions of the social offices. The majority of the social workers experienced that the alarm disrupted the communication between social worker and client. Although the differences between receptions, the conclusion were that they both have demands on the clients. These demands can be traced to the policy of the workplace. It was also concluded from the accounts-questions that the social workers has a strong tendency to justifications towards the own social service office and how incidents are handled by themselves. This leads to social workers acting against their own personal values. (Less)
