Abstract
This study aims at examining and analyzing the involvement of the school counselor in the drug prevention work which is carried out in primary schools. This by examining how the work with drug prevention is carried out in some primary schools today, if there is a special focus on the defined risk student, and which approaches of the work is evidence based. We chose qualitative semi structured interviews as a method in this study to collect the empirical data. The results of this study shows that the work with drug prevention is carried out very differently looking at some primary schools today, and that the structure and responsibilities of the work are different in these schools. There is, to some extent, a drug prevention work in these schools today. However, it is not performed on a continual basis. The interviewed school counselors expressed frustration over not knowing how to work with drug prevention and that some of this difficulty lies in the uncertainty of what methods they should use. The only evidence based method mentioned in this study is Örebro prevention program which half of the schools are using. None of the school counselors whom we interviewed in this study had any direct knowledge about the recommendations of the school board and their criteria in the work with drug prevention. All the interviewees express that the work with drug prevention is difficult. Much depends on the dilemma of whether to have a restrictive policy towards drugs or not, risking bringing a curiosity to students. Another reason is that the school counselors feel that there is a lack of time, resources and guidance for the school staff.

Keywords: Drug preventive work, schools preventive work, evidence based practice, primary and secondary prevention, risk and protective factors. (Less)
