Abstract
There is a lot of discussions going on about employability, both in political propositions and educational policies. In some parts of the academic literature about this policy concept, some qualms have arisen about the excluding and unidirectional ways in which the representation of the concept is usually made. In the light of these misgivings, this study is conducted at the practical level of education.
Through a policy analysis focusing on the linguistic construction of implied problems, this essay tries to create a greater understanding of the effect that arises from the construction. Through a policy analysis focusing on the linguistic construction of implied problems, this essay tries to create a greater understanding of the effect that arises from the construction. The goal was to see how the problem, which called for an increasing level of employability, was represented in the local educational level of Lund University.
The results were not as delimited as the literature-based preconception implied. There are some signs of the dominating representations, where the higher education is seen primarily as a utility maximizationer for the labor market. at the level of the interviewed directors of education(studierektorer). But the representation is not as dominant as in the literature and the studies of educational policies. The conceptual stretching of employability is being used, and the employable student-subject is filled with more than the dominant ideals of adaptability and conformability.
