- The aim of the study was to highlight the situation of children with disabilities. Previous research shows that these children are more vulnerable to different types of abuse than other children. Several studies show, due to the large number of unreported cases, that society is ill-equipped to detect cases of abuse against children with disabilities. - The aim of the study was to highlight the situation of children with disabilities. Previous research shows that these children are more vulnerable to different types of abuse than other children. Several studies show, due to the large number of unreported cases, that society is ill-equipped to detect cases of abuse against children with disabilities. The purpose of this study was also to examine how social services are working with this group. We conducted six interviews with seven respondents who are employees of Individual and Family Care from four municipalities in southern Sweden. Respondents took part in a typical case vignette at the interview sessions, about a boy diagnosed with ADHD and mild mental retardation that worries staff on short-term stay. The empirical data was analyzed based on theory of discretion and accounts. It was found that respondents had differed in their use of discretion, used accounts in varying degrees and had different explanations for these children's invisibility. All participants were shown to have consistently little experience of the problem, but nevertheless showed good initiative and imagination in meeting with the children. Our study confirms that the group is invisible and that there is a large quantity a large hidden statistics. It is worrying and we hope that more studies will take up where our study ends. There is a great need for further discussion to address these children's difficult and vulnerable (Less)
