A dynamic interpretation of SMEs organizational learning in an international strategic alliance: A cross sectional case study

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to find out the factors which can help SMEs to enhance organizational learning in a dynamic strategic alliance within an international context. In order to answer the research questions, a case study is conducted. By using a qualitative method, the empirical data is collected through six semi-structured interviews in the case companies. In this research, a theoretical framework has been conducted in order to identify the important factors which have strong influences on SMEs learning in strategic alliances. The purpose of this research is to find out the factors which can help SMEs to enhance organizational learning in a dynamic strategic alliance within an international context. In order to answer the research questions, a case study is conducted. By using a qualitative method, the empirical data is collected through six semi-structured interviews in the case companies. In this research, a theoretical framework has been conducted in order to identify the important factors which have strong influences on SMEs learning in strategic alliances. Based on the theoretical findings, factors such as learning intent, absorptive capacity, and competition and cooperation in a strategic alliance can help firms to enhance their learning. Also, a theoretical model is developed in order to carry out the empirical study. The result from this research shows that SMEs with a clear learning intent and high absorptive capacity learn more than their partners in a strategic alliance. Also, the findings prove that learning in an alliance is dynamic rather static based on the mobility of the ratio of private to common benefits. Thus, this research contributes to the lack of research of SMEs organizational learning in a dynamic strategic alliance within international context. The management of SMEs can beneficial with this research in the field of organizational learning. (Less)
