Abstract
The study examines why Complete Vocal Technique (CVT) is used in singing education in upper secondary school. The basis of the study are three interviews with vocal instructors working at the aesthetics program, who have studied at the Academy of Music and had further studies at the Complete Vocal Institute (CVI). The study is executed with qualitative method.

The purpose of the study is to examine how CVT-vocal coaches teach, differences in their teaching methods prior and after their further education at CVI. I have also examined the possibilities to develop self-assessment amongst students, using CVT in upper secondary

The purpose of the study is to examine how CVT-vocal coaches teach, differences in their teaching methods prior and after their further education at CVI. I have also examined the possibilities to develop self-assessment amongst students, using CVT in upper secondary
school. The results show that vocal coaches using the CVT-method experiences a greater security in their own knowledge today than prior their further education at CVI. They use common terms, a language used by all CVT-teachers. I have made the conclusion that both
teachers and students get a greater understanding of what they are teaching - or being taught.

On the matter of self-assessment in singing education, I have found that CVT is a method that forces the student to listen, feel and detect. The CVT-over all principle ”if it feels wrong - it is wrong” grants the student power over the teaching situation. Self-assessment is a natural part of every singing lesson. (Less)
