Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine how high school students in Kenya define and discuss democracy. The aim was further to examine which factors, both positive and negative that are assumed to affect the democratization in their country. The goal was to contribute to a critical debate around how the concept of democracy is defined in existing theories and how it is implemented by development policys. The empirical material is collected from six focus
