Abstract
In Sweden, municipalities are key players in the environmental work to achieve the ambitious energy and climate goals that are set. For Sweden to be able to meet the national environmental targets that are set to 2020 requires that all the actors in Sweden cooperate. For citizens, these goals mean that lifestyle changes are required, which includes consumption, transport and the use of resources.
One way to provide citizens with the means to change their lifestyle is to involve them in the municipality’s climate work through various measures. One of these tools is to create citizen involvement with a Green Map. A Green Map is a local project where the result is an interactive map, which is created jointly by all who lives in the area.

One way to provide citizens with the means to change their lifestyle is to involve them in the municipality’s climate work through various measures. One of these tools is to create citizen involvement with a Green Map. A Green Map is a local project where the result is an interactive map, which is created jointly by all who lives in the area.
The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of involving citizens in the municipality’s climate work through a Green Map. This will be done by interviewing and evaluating the Open Green Maps created in Sweden, but also by creating a pilot version of an Open Green Map in Lomma. Interviews with operations in Malmö and Blekinge showed the need for continuous promotion of the map. Otherwise it will not stay active. According to the survey conducted in Lomma, a large majority of the respondents believe that a Green Map is a good tool, for involving the citizens in the municipality’s climate work. The map can act as a platform, where citizens participate and communicate their opinions. This study also shows that a continual development of the map is needed. The possibility that a Green Map should be able to develop citizen involvement is high, when the map is combined with other tools and measures in the municipality. A Green Map can also be developed with several categories such as transport, nature areas, trails and renewable energy. The municipality of Lomma is recommended to continue the work with Lomma Green Map to develop an ambitious climate work with help from the map. (Less)
