- Abstract
- Title: Creating flow and drive in the rehearsal – a study on choral conducting
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the complex rehearsal strategies of the choral conductor and how (s)he can create “the great choral rehearsal” by observing and interviewing two choral conductors’ actions during a rehearsal and discuss the purpose of these actions.
To collect data the stimulated recall method has been used which involves the use of both video recordings and a subsequent research interview. Both participating conductors are active in the amateur choral life in Denmark and Sweden.
The study shows a number of actions performed by the conductors, including supporting the choir with piano playing, starting and stopping the choir and... (More) - Title: Creating flow and drive in the rehearsal – a study on choral conducting

To collect data the stimulated recall method has been used which involves the use of both video recordings and a subsequent research interview. Both participating conductors are active in the amateur choral life in Denmark and Sweden.
The study shows a number of actions performed by the conductors, including supporting the choir with piano playing, starting and stopping the choir and giving instructions/feedback while the choir members are singing. One of the purposes of their actions is to create a drive in the rehearsal. A second purpose is for the singers to go through a musical and social development through the acting of the conductor. Furthermore, their actions are associated with the flow theory as attributed to the psychologist M. Csikszentmihalyi. (Less) - Abstract (Danish)
(Less)
