- Background: Many companies are today struggling to keep up with the challenges
that have arisen from the increase of globalization and harder
competition during the last couple of decades. This might reflect on
companies as they need to do a strategic organizational change in

research on the topic, yet there are no practical guidelines as change
managers can get support from during planning and implementation
of a change management project.
Main purpose: To describe how managers and change leaders can think during
decision making, planning and implementation of successful
strategic change management projects.
Methodology: This thesis is a qualitative case study with a deductive and inductive
research approach. Empirical data has been collected through in-
depth expert interviews with a theoretical frame-work as a base as
well as case studies. The empirical data was matched against the
theoretical framework in an analysis model, aiming to achieve the
purpose of this paper.
Conclusions: The thesis has developed an explanatory model that describes a
change management project from a strategic view. The thesis has
also developed an explanatory process that describes operational
guidelines in how to plan and implement a strategic change
management project within the purchasing function. (Less)
