- Populist parties in Europe are and have been emerging in the last decade in a fast pace. The populist rethoric is becoming more and more common. In Sweden this is also the case, as the populist party Sverigedemokraterna quickly has become the third largest party in the country. The party-leader, Jimmie Åkesson, is a good rethorician. Åkesson and his party has been a hot-topic in media and society for several years. The analysis is done by examining speeches of the party-leader, Åkesson. The results of the investigation showed that the populist party, Sverigedemokraterna, uses mainly pathos induced rethorics, meaning he mainly tries to evoke emotions from the audience to try to persuade them about his political message.
