Högstadieelevers gymnasieval och estetiska programmets minskade söktryck - En studie med elever från två musikprofilerade högstadieskolor inför deras val till gymnasieskolan

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka högstadieelevers val till gymnasiet och i vilken utsträckning elever från två musikprofilerade grundskolor söker det estetiska programmet. I studien används Pierre Bourdieus teorier om kapital för att utläsa hur elevernas sociala bakgrunder påverkar deras val. Studien syftar även till att finna orsaker till varför det estetiska programmet sjunkit i antal sökande under de senaste åren. Undersökningen genomförs i form av en enkät och genom intervjuer med elever och musiklärare på medverkande skolor. Resultatet tyder på en skillnad mellan elevgrupper, som beroende på social bakgrund, klasstillhörighet och etnicitet anförtror sig till den sociala omgivningen inför sina gymnasieval. Det visar också att det estetiska programmets sjunkande söktryck kan härledas till konsekvenser av politiska beslut, samt att elever i större utsträckning söker program som ger särskild behörighet för fortsatta studier. The purpose of this study is to investigate elementary school pupils’ choices for upper secondary schools, and to what extent students from two music-profiled schools apply for the aesthetic program. In the study Pierre Bourdieu's theories are used as an attempt to understand how the students’ social background influence their choices of program.
