- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- This study aims to investigate how different types of rewriting; metaphors and similarities are used by students and teachers in music theory and ear training. More specifically, how students choose to describe three types of colored chords, how they perceive the use of these descriptions to help identify the chords and how a music theory teacher uses metaphors, descriptive words and associations in their teaching. To find out what descriptions the students used, two test lessons were conducted where the task was to listen and decide what kind of adjectives matched the different chords. Besides that, the study is done through qualitative focus group interviews and qualitative interviews. The result shows that students use different... (More)

To find out what descriptions the students used, two test lessons were conducted where the task was to listen and decide what kind of adjectives matched the different chords. Besides that, the study is done through qualitative focus group interviews and qualitative interviews. The result shows that students use different associations to describe the three chords. The chords are described using colors, feelings, and words that describe the chord's imagined appearance. The students also mean that the descriptions helped them to identify the three colored chords at a later date. The result also shows that the teacher's use of metaphors and rewriting can have both advantages and disadvantages in teaching. (Less)
