Abstract
This thesis aims to answer how a new specific electric road technique called Elonroad should be installed to operate an electric bus fleet in the city of Lund at lowest possible cost.
An algorithm has been written in MATLAB to obtain the optimal locations for installing electric road sections.
Real time measurements of bus movements, dwelling times, velocities and more were obtained from Skånetrafiken and used as inputs to the optimization algorithm.
Popular Abstract
An algorithm has been written to evaluate the possibilities of introducing an electric road system (ERS) in Lund city. With a desired end station dwelling time of 300 seconds (5 minutes) and a charging power of 180 kW, an ERS could become reality for the whole bus system using only 2-3 kilometres electric road and some additional stationary charging locations. Parts of the city around Lund central station should preferably see electric road installation in an optimized scenario. It is interesting to examine whether the ERS technique can become economically competitive in the future compared to conventional techniques. According to this thesis, it might actually do, at least for the bus system in Lund city.
