- Abstract
- The last decades, far-right political parties made huge advancements in divisive elections in the West with growing anti-refugee and anti-Islam sentiments. There is no doubt that policies in Sweden have emboldened the far-right. The methodology uses semi-structured interviews to capture the population perception and a snowball method was conducted as a sampling strategy. The participants in the interviews had different influences affecting their identity construction but the vital part was their parent’s original identity, Swedish identity, and religion. Most of the participants could see their identities as a duality, however, there were clashes within themselves, with the society or with their parents. The far-right movements have had some effect on the participant ́s identity construction in various ways affecting both the Muslim and Swedish identity. However, to fully grasp the extent of the effect further research needs to be conducted and potentially in a longer time frame to be able to see a possible alteration. (Less)
