Landsbygden och hållbarheten i transportinfrastrukturplanering : en fallstudie över regionala och nationella infrastrukturprioriteringar

- Abstract
- Based on regional differences in cities and countryside this bachelor thesis intends to explore regional and national prioritization in transport planning. With new investments effecting both growth and sustainability, an urban focus can leave minor municipalities and smaller towns unable to compete, possibly making a sustainable lifestyle exclusive to cities.
Using a case study approach and content analysis, exploring themes such as sustainability, connections, mode of transport, planning level and location, the thesis sets out to answer how the national authority Trafikverket, and a chosen region, Region Västerbotten prioritizes city and countryside as well as sustainability. Using a case study approach and content analysis, exploring themes such as sustainability, connections, mode of transport, planning level and location, the thesis sets out to answer how the national authority Trafikverket, and a chosen region, Region Västerbotten prioritizes city and countryside as well as sustainability. A compilation of investments specified in the planning documents was also made in order to compare the results. The chosen region has a large concentration of municipalities considered as countryside, based on a classification by Jordsbruksverket, as well as long distances.
The analysis revealed that the city is prioritized, both when it comes to national and regional documents and investments. The national authority displayed this more clearly in their document than Region Västerbotten, but when also looking at the investments, the region exhibited signs of this as well. When it came to sustainability the national document brought up environmental sustainability the most, while the regional spoke more about economic sustainability.
The prioritization demonstrated in the documents and compilation of investments would presume that the cities will continue to grow and become more sustainable, where as there is a risk that the countryside might recede and not be able to counteract the sustainability and mobility of the cities.
