- Unfriending someone on Facebook is a phenomena which can be seen in many different contexts and unfriending someone for political reasons can create obstacles for political conversations as it can increase polarization in society. In recent years there has been a tendency of unfriending individuals that express sympathies for the political party Swedish Democrats (SD) which can be perceived as stigmatizing for the unfriended. This paper examines the polarization and experience of stigmatization expressed in discussion forums online. The aim of this paper is also to investigate how the individuals participating in the research threads relate to the phenomenon of unfriending people on social media because of their values and opinions.
