- Abstract
- Despite the fact that there are established networks that reach far beyond the ¨last mile¨, there are still difficulties encountered by the distribution networks of necessities in Uganda. The purpose of this thesis is to study how successful networks in Uganda operate, what characterizes them and under what possible conditions they could be used for distributing humanitarian supplies. The method for this study is based on qualitative interviews with people that are all active within organizations of humanitarian operations. These interviews were analysed using the theory within clusters, non governmental organizations and humanitarian logistics. The empirical material was then further understood by using other organizational and service... (More)

The empirical material was then further understood by using other organizational and service science theories, such as Actor Network Theory (ANT), Service dominant logic (SD-L) and Action Nets etcetera. The result from studying the collaboration between actors, networks and where it collides, concluded that major elements that contribute to such collisions are gatekeepers and lack of trust and understanding for local non-human actors/institutions. The result of this study can be seen as a foundation to further investigate how to better integrate international humanitarian networks with local distribution networks, or at least be seen as interesting aspects that through a service management mindset can convey other perspectives.
