Construction Management
Abstract
The purpose of this master thesis is to examine which project management initiatives increase the effectivity and how the project management initiatives affect the employee’s well-being. The master thesis is a qualitative case study and interview study. In the case study employees from six different construction projects in Scania have been interviewed. The respondents were project managers, production managers, project engineers and supervisors. In the interview study support functions, district managers and a regional manager were interviewed with the purpose to receive a larger perspective of the subject. The result of the qualitative case study and the interview study were applied to the theory behind the master thesis in a discussion.... (More)

In the interview study support functions, district managers and a regional manager were interviewed with the purpose to receive a larger perspective of the subject. The result of the qualitative case study and the interview study were applied to the theory behind the master thesis in a discussion.

The result of the study shows that the project management in all of the projects have implemented multiple initiatives to increase the effectivity. The successful initiatives are financial control, detailed time plan, good planning, involvement of the skilled workers and subcontractors, continuous staffing, leadership, management by objectives, meetings, project team, support functions, clear division of responsibility and clear communication.
Several of the respondents described that they had a high workload but a good well-being, mainly because they thrived at work and in their project team. Furthermore, it is of importance for the well-being with a present management that has continuous individual reconciliation meetings. The study also shows that leadership affects well-being, both positive and negative.
Moreover, in the projects where one or more of the success factors have been implemented the respondents mean that they have increased the well-being at the workplace. Several of the initiatives such as financial control and good planning that have created a structure and involved the employees have had a good impact on the well-being. The initiatives connected to the team and communication is also seen to have had a good impact on the effectivity and well- being. The study also shows that social activities could be seen as particularly successful for the well-being. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
