(1997) In Études Romanes de Lund 56.- Abstract
- The Life of Saint Germer and the Life of Saint Josse are two poems consisting of 874 and 820 octosyllabic verses respectively. They were written in the beginning of the 13th century by Pierre de Beauvais. The two poems are preserved in one manuscript only, the Grand recueil la Clayette, Paris, Bibl. nat. Nouv. acq. fr. 13521, written in the latter half of the 13th century by a scribe who was from the region of Beauvais. Since the manuscript was considered to be lost from 1773 to 1951, most previous work on it has been founded on a transcription made in the 18th century. The two saints lived in the 7th century, in Beauvais and in northern Picardy respectively. Their lives were written in latin in several versions. In the introduction to... (More)
