Placidean teachings in early 19th century Britain : John Worsdale and Thomas Oxley

Gansten, Martin LU (2011) Eighth annual conference of the Sophia Centre for the Study of Cosmology in Culture
Abstract
The paper examines the reception of and revisions made to the teachings of the Italian astrologer-monk Placido de Titi (1603 – 1668) in Protestant England following the decline of astrology during the 18th century, particularly as found in the writings of John Worsdale (1766 – c. 1826), whose role in the emergence of modern astrology is to a certain extent reappraised, and of his contemporary critic Thomas Oxley (1789 – 1851).
