Il NESSO SICUREZZA-SVILUPPO NELLA GESTIONE MIGRATORIA EUROPEA IN NORD AFRICA
(2021) p.743-751- Abstract
- In response to the so-called migration crisis, the European Commission has promoted the creation of a European Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF) to address the root causes of migration through cooperation with third countries. Through such a tool, development is mainly used to ensure the control of migration routes, exacerbating pre-existing conflictual dynamics and contributing to serious human rights’ violations. In order to clarify the link between security, development, migration and geography, this article proposes a spatial analysis of two EUTF projects in Libya. A geographic lens is in fact fundamental to understand how these policies create new geographies of control and containment extending the European border further south.
