Olvidar – Brumaria Works #9 : Forgetting – Brumaria Works #9
(2018) 2.- Abstract
- The purpose of Forgetting – Brumaria Works #9 is: (1) to address the many questions that unfold around the notion, action, effects and affect of forgetting in the context we live in; (2) to produce theoretical and practical materials for a knowledge of forgetting.
As a means of spurring and strengthening our research, we are inviting all sorts of contributors to collectively think about forgetting from all possible discoursive standpoints—ie. philosophical, political, anthropological, artistic, or psychological, to name but a few. Among all contributions received and through a selection made by the editorial and curatorial body behind this project, Brumaria will edit a series of printed publications that will compile the texts... - This volume collects a heterogeneous range of optional views on oblivion contributed by contemporary authors from different disciplines and corners of the world. Together, these approaches seek to illuminate—some in academic essay format; and others, in literary or free style—the discursive and emancipatory potential of forgetting. The people who sign the 45 texts summarized here have been invited to, to the extent possible, address the nuclear issue of oblivion as far as possible from the paralyzing media discussion that, under the rubric of the ideological management of History through selective forgetting or the moral imperative of memory, captures public and political attention and research, artistic or historiographic production. And memory is a crucial driving vehicle of the recent historical process, there is no doubt, but forgetting is no less so. The present situation between the two is compelling to try to analyze their own future.
