- On the background of geographical and structural barriers for integrated water
management discussed by Castensson et al (1990) and Hägerstrand (1993) a case study in Kävlinge river catchment area in southern Scania, Sweden was conducted. The study focused on existing water-related and other forms of co-operation within and between municipalities. Obstacles for effective water management were studied, as well as geographical aspects of existing co-operation. Data were mainly collected by interviews with officials at five of nine municipalities in the catchment area. Formalised cooperation was found to be rare. Existing forms of co-operation can be useful in water management,especially, if officials from several administrative sectors dealing with water questions
are included. In Kävlinge river project all municipalities with territories in the river catchment area participate. Concerning this project it was found that the size of the municipalities’ own parts in the catchment area directly indicate the degree of engagement in co-operation activities. (Less)
