- The genus Draba L. is a conspicuous element of the arctic flora, comprising about 350 species worldwide which mostly are arctic-alpine polyploids. Previously, it has mainly been Draba incana L., D. norvegica Gunn., D. nivalis Liljebl., D. alpina L., D. fladnizensis Wulf., D. daurica DC., D. lactea and D. cinerea Adams that have been considered as belonging to the Icelandic flora. In this paper we examined the existing data and specimens in the herbaria of the Icelandic Institute of Natural History (AMNH and ICEL), in an attempt to sort out this complex group of plants in Iceland. As a result, we were able to confirm the existence of D. incana, D. norvegica, D. nivalis, D. lactea and D. daurica (now D. glabella Pursh). Specimens... (More)

Specimens previously identified as D. alpina turned out to be D. oxycarpa Summerf. In addition, we discovered a new species to Iceland, D. arctogena (E. Ekman) E. Ekman. Like most taxonomists, we accept Erophila verna as a member of the genus Draba . The existence could not be confirmed of either D. fladnizensis or D. cinerea in the present study, although further investigations may discover these and/or other Draba species in Iceland. (Less)
