- The CEAP classification for chronic venous disorders (CVD) was developed in 1994 by an international ad hoc committee of the American Venous Forum, endorsed by the Society for Vascular Surgery, and incorporated into "Reporting Standards in Venous Disease" in 1995. Today most published clinical papers use all or portions of CEAP. Rather than have it stand as a static classification system, an ad hoc committee of the American Venous Forum, working with an international liaison committee, has recommended a number of practical changes, detailed in this consensus report. La classification CEAP pour les troubles veineux chroniques a été développée en 1994 par un comité international ad hoc de l’American Venous Forum, soutenue par la Society for Vascular Surgery et intégrée aux Reporting Standards in Venous Disease en 1995. Entre-temps, la plupart des travaux cliniques publiés utilisent complètement ou partiellement le système CEAP. Afin que cette classification ne devienne pas un système statique, un comité ad hoc de l’American Venous Forum a, en collaboration avec un comité de liaison international, recommandé toute une série de modifications pratiques, énumérées dans ce rapport de consensus. Celles-ci comprennent une amélioration des différentes définitions servant à la description d’affections veineuses chroniques, une amélioration des classes C du CEAP, l’ajout de la description n (no venous abnormality), la date de la classification, le degré d’investigation ainsi que l’introduction d’une version CEAP de base comme alternative plus simple à la classification CEAP complète (avancée). Il est important d’indiquer que le CEAP représente une classification descriptive, alors que le « Venous severity scoring » ainsi que les scores de la qualité de vie représentent des instruments pour les études longitudinales permettant d’évaluer les résultats.
