Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors an atypical antidepressants in depression treatment
(1996) In Primary Care Update for OB/GYNs 3(4). p.116-121- Abstract
- The development of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and atypical antidepressants has changed the treatment of depression significantly. Newer antidepressants lack many of the side effects associated with the monoamine oxidase inhibitors (isocarboxazid, for example) and the tricyclic antidepressants, thereby increasing patient compliance. They are also less dangerous in overdose and are often used as first-line pharmacologic treatment for depression in the primary care setting.
