Quantifying the Heat Release of Wood Fiber Insulation using Small-Scale Calorimetry
(2025) 5th European Symposium on Fire Safety Science, ESFSS 2025 In Journal of Physics: Conference Series 3121(1).- Abstract
Bio-based insulation materials, such as wood fiber, offer sustainable alternatives to conventional insulation but pose challenges due to their combustibility, particularly their smouldering behavior. This study investigates the heat release characteristics of wood fiber insulation using a combination of Simultaneous Thermal Analysis (STA) and Microscale Combustion Calorimetry (MCC) to assess both condensed-phase and gas-phase reactions. The experiments were conducted under both inert and oxidative conditions to quantify the impact of oxygen on the decomposition and heat release mechanisms.
