Presented at the International VISURF Nordic-Baltic Colloquium Visions of Residential Futures (Gothenburg, 2011), part of a NordForsk-supported research network exploring housing transformation and urban living, this contribution introduces Dérive – Lerum, an urban and architectural proposal developed within Europan 10, a European competition platform for innovative housing and urban development.

The project explores alternative approaches to residential futures through psychogeographic methods, drawing on the concept of the dérive to reinterpret the site through drifting, mapping, and narrative construction. By developing a “cartography of meanings,” the proposal reveals latent spatial qualities and constructs a series of urban situations that challenge conventional planning logics.

Rather than proposing a fixed masterplan, the project operates through fragments and sequences, offering an open-ended framework for urban transformation. It positions residential development as an experiential and cultural process, where architecture engages with perception, memory, and everyday practices. (Less)
