Mossfloran på Höörssandstenen
(2021) In Botaniska Notiser: utgivna av Lunds botaniska förening (2001-) 154(3). p.43-61- Abstract (Swedish)
- The Jurassic sandstones around Höör and Vittseröd in central Skåne, southern-most Sweden are almost unique for Sweden and have been subjected to quarrying for at least 1000 years to produce millstones and building blocks for major buildings including the Lund cathedral. In the present study, the bryophyte flora of 17 such old or ancient sandstone quarries is investigated and described. A total of 114 species were found which is a remarkably high number for the region, but the flora of individual quarries was not exceptionally rich. The dominating species are common also in surrounding acidic forest habitats, but some species are clearly more abundant in the sandstone quarries than in the surrounding landscape (e.g. Pseudotaxiphyllum... Pseudotaxiphyllum elegans, Sciuro-hypnum reflexum, Barbilophozia attenuata, Tritomaria exsectiformis). Several regionally rare species were also found (e.g. Cynodontium strumiferum, Barbilophozia floekei, Gymnocolea inflata, Lophozia sudetica, L. wenzelii, Tritomaria exsecta). Analyses considering the present-day forest type of the quarry sites suggest that dominating tree species (Fagus sylvatica, Quercus robur or Picea abies) have a significant influence on the species composition, but not the richness, of the bryophyte flora, while the age of the quarries (all abandoned > 100 years ago) may be less important.
