Abstract
The global shift to a knowledge-based economy is driven by rapid advancements in information and communication technology (ICT). Within this landscape, digital transformation of supply chains is crucial for enterprises, particularly small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), seeking to boost performance and efficiency in competitive markets. Despite increased awareness of this importance, there is lack of research from managers’ perspectives on digital transformation in supply chains. The research addresses this gap by exploring managers’ perceptions, identifying success factors and challenges in digital transformation within Iranian food SMEs. Through qualitative research among Iranian food SME managers, data were collected via individual interviews and document reviews, then analyzed thematically. Five key themes emerged and were discussed using the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework. The findings show that managers view digital transformation as a tool to streamline supply chain activities and enhance overall efficiency. Success factors include ICT infrastructure development and increased awareness of ICT benefits. Challenges include inadequate investment and adherence to traditional business models. Successful digital transformation requires adept ICT adoption across technological, organizational, and environmental contexts. This research contributes to the informatics research field by focusing on digital supply chain transformation, offering valuable insights for supply chain managers and SME leaders undergoing digital transformation. The research outcome offers support to practitioners in understanding their firm’s digitalization progress, identifying success factors, and navigating challenges in the digital transformation journey.
