We then describe the objectives setup for the project related to learning regions and the third mission for universities and describe also in some details how the project was carried out in each regional case with some general remarks on the art of making the village a virtual campus. We then present and discuss the outcomes of the... (More)

We then present and discuss the outcomes of the experiments with regional collaboratories and the general results achieved within the lifetime of the project. In the last part of the paper we discuss the results in more general terms and make some recommendations on how to make villages not only learning, but also innovative and creative, which indicates the need for a new framework for knowledge creation where place and people really matters.
