A passive neutron dosemeter for measurements in mixed neutron-photon radiation fields

- The project combines the highly sensitive salt
(NaCl) dosemeter for photon radiation with a neutronphoton
converter in the form of thin gadolinium foils
enclosing the salt. Using an identical salt dosemeter but
without gadolinium cover determines the primary
photon contribution. With these twin dosemeters placed
in a polyethylene sphere, both photon and neutron dose
contributions can be estimated. This paper describes the
design and optimization of the construction as well as
tests and a preliminary calibration of the dosemeter for
estimation of neutron dose equivalent in the mixed
neutron and photon beam from a Cf-252 source.
