Risk Parameters in Integrated Products and Service Offerings - A Swedish Aerospace Industry Example

Svanberg, Jenny LU (2002) 14th Annual NOFOMA Conference, 2002
Abstract
The development towards total offers; integrated product and

service offers, is a trend in industry, particularly in business to

business relations. This strive towards more extended offers can

be noticed in a wide range of companies from different branches,

and it has important implications on management. Today there is

no established method available to handle the extended risks

associated with this type of business. This study constitutes a part

of an ongoing research project and will be part of the basis for a

model to evaluate the outcome of total offers regarding

maintenance in the aircraft industry. The paper presents a case

maintenance in the aircraft industry. The paper presents a case

study performed at Volvo Aero Corporation, a Swedish aerospace

company. The case study explores the importance of logistics and

pinpoints the sources of risk in total offers regarding aircraft engine

maintenance. Focus is on the sources of risk associated with

logistics. The study is a multiple-case case study, and it is

performed using multiple sources of evidence, such as is

interviews, archival studies and observations, in order to be

supported by triangulation for verification. The result from the case

study gives an increased knowledge regarding the parameters

affecting the risk, and facilitates the creation of win-win

relationships within this industry. (Less)
