Abstract
The archaeological report is a key component within archaeological investigations. Traditionally, the report is a static document composed of text and images; in this way, it cannot exploit all the new media and interconnected data that have been introduced by the digital transformation that has affected archaeology. Recently, modern approaches to the publication of archaeological data have seen some proposals based on the use of web-based 3D visualization technology (Optiz 2018; Richards-Rissetto and von Schwerin 2017; Sullivan and Snyder 2017). Nevertheless, the existing solutions do not focus specifically on the archaeological report from a narrative point of view. This research provides new insights into the use of three-dimensional... This research provides new insights into the use of three-dimensional digital data, already pervasive across the entire excavation and interpretation process, intending to create a digital and interactive version of the archaeological report with great potentials for the archaeological fieldwork.
This study describes the design of a digital reporting system, the use of the system in a multi-year campaign and an initial application of the use of the digital report for teaching. This represents a contribution to the research on sustainable forms of archiving and publication of archaeological contents and on their reuse and sharing. (Less)
