Abstract
China is a global leader in the manufacturing of clean energy. Unexpectedly, the severe environmental degradation occurring since the 1990s and the critical air pollution situation are now under control. Many steps still need to be taken in order to fix all the problems linked with the long-term environmental crisis. However, since Xi Jinping’s advent to power in 2012, Beijing has undertaken a solid ecological path. As evidence of this, China has recently been labeled as the “Green Dragon”. Besides examining the environmental crisis occurring in China before Xi’s presidency and the measures he adopted to tackle the disastrous consequences of pollution nationwide, this paper will analyze the high diffusion of electric vehicles (EVs) in... China is a global leader in the manufacturing of clean energy. Unexpectedly, the severe environmental degradation occurring since the 1990s and the critical air pollution situation are now under control. However, since Xi Jinping’s advent to power in 2012, Beijing has undertaken a solid ecological path. As evidence of this, China has recently been labeled as the “Green Dragon”. Besides examining the environmental crisis occurring in China before Xi’s presidency and the measures he adopted to tackle the disastrous consequences of pollution nationwide, this paper will analyze the high diffusion of electric vehicles (EVs) in China. After comparing the Chinese EV market with Western nations, I intend to shed light on the “green revolution” occurring in the Asian demographic giant since 2012.
