- Within the realm of furniture is the copy a controversial subject matter and is often discussed in terms of “real or fake”, “copy or original”. Walter Benjamin was probably the first theorist to pay attention to the power of the copy, in terms of changing our social and cultural attitudes towards the nature of representation with his Das Kunstwerk im Zeitalter seiner technischen Reproduzierbarkeit from 1936. The idea here is to investigate the modern furniture classic through the copy and look at the cultural and social effects it conveys with the article “The Migration of the Aura, or How to Explore the Original through Its Facsimiles”, by Bruno Latour and Adam Lowe from 2011, as a starting-point.
