Abstract (Swedish)
A risk indexing method for evaluating safety in railway tunnels has been developed. Firstly, a
hierarchical structure with one objective, three sub-objectives, four strategies and ten attributes were
defined. Secondly, attributes were elaborated and developed by means of assessable parameters
related to tunnel safety. Thirdly, the relative importance of the attributes was analysed and assessed by
means of expert judgement including using a focus group assessment and a Delphi process
assessment. Fourth and finally, the index method was tested for a total of five railway tunnels,
