Hammar, Isak LU orcid (2021) p.237-259

This article analyses the creation of a new template for pedagogical scholars during the early decades of the nineteenth century in Sweden, encased in the tragic persona of Carl Ulric Broocman. On closer inspection, the obituary betrays the influence of specific German personae and the article argues that scholarly virtues as well as aspects of Christian masculinity can be traced back to travels Broocman made as a young man in Germany. Finally, the article argues that Broocman was portrayed as a Christ-like figure and a martyr which served to enhance these traits... (More)
